Committees

 In order to achieve its goals, the SMCA has formed the following committees:

  • Advocacy Committee
    • Advocating on issues of concern to the community such as legislation that may threaten religious freedom.
  • Media technical committee
    • Upskilling the community in media from a technical aspect
  • Women’s Committee
    • Researching and assessing women’s needs within the community and organising programs to meet these needs.
  • Sports Committee:
    • Organising sporting events spanning across different centres and ethnic groups within the Shia community to promote cohesiveness.
  • Education committee
    • Responsible for promoting and advancing high-quality education within the community, both within madressas and full-time schools.
  • Interfaith committee
    • Responsible for organising interfaith outreach, relationships and dialogue.
  • New Muslims committee
    • Working to meet the needs of new Shia Muslims and working to improve access to Shia Muslim resources for those researching into Islam.
  • Legal Committee
    • Providing legal research and advice to SMCA and its members.
  • Community Empowerment Committee
    • Building a network within the Shia community to allow community members to access employment and financial opportunities through networking.
